One full-time Staff Physician position is available in the Spinal Cord Injury and Disorders (SCI/D) Service, Hampton VA Medical Center. The tour of duty is 8:00am to 4:30pm. There may be some instances where the incumbent would be required to work after 4:30pm, or have the flexibility to work outside the normal tour of duty which may include weekends and holidays. Salary is determined by the Professional Standards Board based on education, qualifications, experience, and credentials. This announcement is open to all qualified U. S. Citizens. DUTIES:
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

a. Provides a full range of services including assessment and using the most appropriate techniques in providing quality care in their subspecialty.

b. Performs appropriate evaluations for patients.

c. Provides a full range of therapeutic interventions to units/programs in the Medical Center to which they are assigned and has clinical privileges to practice including diagnostic assessment, medication evaluation and management.

d. Participates effectively in team meetings and treatment planning conferences, and collaborates with multidisciplinary team members in a manner that enhances coordination of comprehensive patient care.

e. Orders diagnostic tests and discriminates between normal and abnormal findings and makes appropriate treatment decisions

f. Ensures that the practice of medicine is consistent with Joint Commission, CARF, VA policies and procedures, clinical practice guidelines, VISN standards, national statutes and regulations, medical record documentation, mandatory continuing education, and HIPAA policies.

g. Other duties as assigned by the Chief of Staff within clinical privileges to meet the needs of the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Qualifications :
a. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.

b. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

c. Proficiency in spoken and written English is required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).

d. Board certified or board eligible is preferred.

Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications (particularly positions with a positive education requirement.) Therefore, applicants must report only attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
