Riverside Tappahannock Hospital has an immediate opening for a Full Time Lead Surgical Tech, CST in the Operating Room. Tappahannock Hospital is a 67-bed facility that cares for residents in the Tappahannock area, including Essex, Richmond and Westmoreland Counties and northernmost parts of Lancaster, Northumerbland, Middlesex, and King and Queen Counties. Our services include Inpatient Care, Emergency Services, Home Care, Hospice Care, Rehabilitative Services, Social Services and Care Management, Senior Living, Urgent Care, Mammography, Infusion Center, Laboratory Services, Radiology and a vast aray of services.JOB SUMMARY: Works under the supervision of the Registered Nurse in the Operating Room and the Nurse Manager. Assists with the coordination of nursing care of the patient in the operating room and functions as a team member of the surgical team. Responsible for the preparation and maintenance of equipment, instrumentation and supplies on the sterile field. Requires utilization of simple to complex equipment. Requires the cleaning and replenishment of equipment and supplies in order to maintain quality patient care. Participates in quality patient assurance, in-service and customer service programs. Responsible for the handling and management of specimens and surgical counts. Assumes the role of expert for specific surgical service, is responsible for monitoring the surgical schedule for equipment and supply needs, prepares for daily case readiness, supports the Specialty Nurse with the surgeon preference cards, and for identifying, communicating, and educating service changes. Lead Surgical Tech is the liaision with clinical affiliation school instructors and is the onsite student resource. In addition is responsible for coordinating, teaching and validating surgical techs competency during orientation period and ongoing annually. EDUCATION:Graduate of an accredited surgical technician program or equivalent. LICENSURE: Current CST certification RequiredEXPERIENCE: 3-5 yrs current experience in surgical tech role required. Teaching/preceptor experience desired. Ability to respond quickly to emergency situations required. Very precise hand/eye coordination and finger dexterity is required as several procedures require the operation of specific instruments. Professionally interacts with physicians, team, visitors, families, volunteers and students consistently. Able to work in high stress environment. Flexible and adaptable to students learning needs and able to modify teaching method to meet learning objectives. Ability to use 5 senses in the performance of patient care duties and observation of students learning and application of skills. HOURS: Monday - Friday, 7:00a to 3:30p; Rotate Evenings and Weekend call.
