Their mission is to provide military veterinary services in support of United States Army Medical! Command and Department of Defense missions. The civilian function of the Veterinary Services is a supplemental mission which exists to assist soldiers and their families in the field of animal health and care.
This is a Regular Part-Time position with the Norfolk Veterinary Treatment Facility. The Norfolk VTF is a rapidly expanding clinic that focuses on wellness care and minor sickcall. We are looking for an outgoing, hardworking individual that places heavy emphasis on client communication and generating a healthy, positive working environment. The individual will oversee all supply and retail ordering, monthly inventory, end-of-day activities and all associated paperwork. The ideal candidate would be outgoing, hard working, and able to maintain a positive sense of camaraderie with their team in step with the VTFÂ's philosophy of Â"Healthy Patients, Happy ClientsÂ". Work schedule to be determined after hire. VTF is operational from 0800-1600 M-F. No TDY, weekend! s, shift work, or holidays.

Assists veterinary personnel in providing care, management, treatment, and sanitary conditions for animals in a veterinary treatment facility. Positions and restrains animals for examination and treatment. Obtains medical history from owners or other responsible individuals. Measures and records animals' weight, temperature, pulse! , and respiratory rate. Performs general physical examination of animal! s to detect obvious abnormalities and records and reports results to the veterinarian. Collects, preserves, and prepares blood, urine, feces, skin scrapings, postmortem tissue specimens, etc., for shipment and/or laboratory examination. Performs routine diagnostic laboratory tests (e.g., fecal smears and flotations, urinalyses, blood counts, etc.) and records results. Prepares animal for surgery as directed and functions as scrub assistant during aseptic surgical procedures. Administers oral, topical, and parenteral medications, treatments, and immunizations as directed by the veterinarian. Provides owner/handler with prescribed medications and treatment instructions. Provides emergency treatment as required. Annotates appropriate information in animal records and maintains them as required. Performs a variety of administrative and clerical functions. Utilizes office automation program for the daily operation of the clinic. Answers the telephone and schedules appointments i! n the appropriate time slots for vaccinations, sick call, and surgery. Greets and receives clients. Initiates, maintains, and files animal health records. Calculates charges and receives monies from clients. Maintains an accurate accountability of all monies and completes daily activity reports. Responds to customer inquiries and concerns, providing general information. Directs animal health questions to the veterinarian. Assists in inventory control and ordering as directed. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Minimum Qualifications:
Work experience demonstrating knowledge, skills and ability in providing care to animals
Work experience demonstrating knowledge, skills and ability in positioning and restraining animals
Work experience demonstrating knowledge, skills and ability to perform general physical examinations
Work experience demonstrating ability to perform routine diagnostic laboratory tests (e.g. fecal smears, flotations, urina! lyses, blood counts, etc)
Work experience demonstrating knowle! dge, skills and ability to perform a variety of administrative and clerical functions
Best Qualified Criteria:
Experience using veterinary practice management software (i.e. AVImark)
