Position reports to: Air Methods Regional Business Manager
Briefly state the chief objective of this position and age groups to be serve! d (if applicable): The EMS Liaison will work with Air Methods and VCU Medical Center to meet outreach and marketing goals mutually beneficial to both organizations. The EMS Liaison will be dedicated to VCU Medical Center and will assist VCU in fulfilling their outreach objectives while collaborating with service lines (to include, but not limited to pediatrics, trauma, neurology, cardiology, cardiac surgery) to market services and the Air Methods aircraft simultaneously. The EMS Liaison will focus on relationship building for the VCU LifeEvac flight program internally at VCU and externally with public safety agencies and community hospitals. The EMS Liaison will work with the Air Methods Regional Business Manager to remain abreast of market dynamics and to coordinate outreach efforts to strengthen the LifeEvac Virginia program.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire: Virginia or National Registry Paramedic certification or Registered Nurse licen! sure with experience working with community hospitals and/or E! MS agencies.
Level and type of experience required: Marketing/outreach experience with an air medical program, marketing outreach experience with EMS, fire, 911 communication centers, and/or community hospitals, knowledge of rural EMS systems, including EMS, fire, 911 communications centers, and community hospitals.

Education Required: Undergraduate degree in Business, Public Relations, Marketing, Emergency Services or Healthcare field.
Education Preferred: Advanced degree in Business, Public Relations, Marketing, Emergency Services, or Healthcare field from an accredited program.
Describe independent actions required: Must be able to work independently. Must be able to develop and maintain collaborative relationship with internal and external stakeholders regarding emergency medical transport and coordinate and facilitate VCUHS and Air Methods reception and access of patients into the health system via VCU LifeEvac.
Addi! tional position requirements such as shift rotations, weekends, environment, etc: Schedule, including requirements of shift rotation and hours of work, may be adjusted as necessary to meet program requirements and/or needs. Requires travel to off-site locations and may require overnight stays.
Job level to which this position reports: Regional Business Manager

1. Performance Expectation: External/Internal EMS Liaison:

  • Serves as the liaison between the pre-hospital system and VCUHS to enhance the continuum of care by facilitating the flow of patients into the acute care setting.
  • Serves as VCUHS primary contact for EMS, fire, 911 communication centers, community hospitals, physicians and community representatives relative to medical transport services and access to acute care.
  • Maintains continuous communications with pre hospital providers to enhance information and services to patients.
  • Coordinates and facili! ties the hospital’s “outreach team” comprised of all internal sta! keholders dependent on incoming emergency transportation. Ensure that all internal hospital departments have a uniform and consistent approach to handling emergency medical transportation issues in order to enhance patients care and maximize results throughout the hospital.
  • Collaborates and manages internal relationships to ensure coordination of services with multiple outside organizations.
  • Provides feedback and recommendations for change to appropriate service line leadership regarding emergency transportation and access. Works collaboratively with internal resources and AMC to resolve issues.
  • Maintains positive and productive working relationship with colleagues, EMS representatives, hospitals, VCUHS leadership, AMC leadership, and the public.
  • Works with Regional Business Director and VCUHS Leadership team to ensure appropriate service recovery.
  • Work with service lines within VCUHS to provide feedback to customers to build and! maintain relationships.
  • Build and maintain relationships with service lines within VCU Medical Center on behalf of the VCU LifeEvac program;
  • Build and maintain relationships with fire, EMS, 911 Communication Centers, and hospitals, while promoting VCU Medical Center and VCU LifeEvac
2. Performance Expectation: Marketing/Public Relations:
  • Serves as VCUHS principal contact by making customer visits to EMS, fire, 911 communication centers, and community hospitals while coordinating with VCUHS service lines and Regional Business Manager.
  • Maintains emsCharts entries for trending and tracking of marketing/public relations activities.
  • Coordinates internal resources for potential public relations opportunities in the community.
  • Participates with AMC and VCUHS leadership at local, regional, and statewide EMS committees, taskforces, and training sessions.
  • Assists VCUHS and AMC with the preparation o! f the annual marketing budget.
  • Plans, coordinates, and staff e! vents and special programs that support the marketing plan in a fiscally responsible manner.
  • Coordinates with the Regional Business Director to maintain the VCU LifeEvac brand of promotional and marketing material.
3. Performance Expectation: Provides Outreach Support and Services

  • Coordinates VCU LifeEvac EMS outreach efforts to include presentations and soliciting support of civic groups, promoting observer program, providing community public safety services, fire, EMS, and 911 communication center outreach activities.
  • Participate in community outreach informational and education activities (career day, open house, fire prevention, etc)
  • Collaborates with public safety representatives and community leaders to ensure involvement and participation in issues/concerns regarding emergency medical transport and access to acute care.
  • Attends local, regional, and state conferences, meetings, and taskforces at t! he direction of VCUHS and AMC leadership.
  • Assist in developing and implementing the VCU LifeEvac outreach plan
  • Organize and coordinate outreach events on behalf of VCU LifeEvac and VCU Medical Center
  • Serve as project leader for marketing events sponsored by VCU Medical Center (triathlons, etc),
  • Motivate VCU LifeEvac flight team to participate in marketing and outreach events
  • Attend VCU LifeEvac outreach events with staff members for support and to be a resource on site.
4. Performance Expectation: Strategic Planning

5. Assists in developing goals and objectives to promote and increase medical transport capabilities and entry into VCUHS.
6. Assists in identifying growth and development opportunities to increase the volume of emergency ground and air transport into VCUHS.
7. Works with Regional Business Manager to share market knowledge regarding competitor’s activities (service levels, billing ! rates, aircraft type) within the local/regional community and provides ! timely updates to AMC and VCUHS leadership.

Required support for the position: laptop computer; smartphone cellular communication device (equipped with email, text, web surfing and calling capability), ability to connect to the internet remotely from vehicle (Mifi, cell capability, etc); mileage reimbursement for travel or rental car; printer; meals/lodging for employee overnight travel; meal budget for business meals with customers
