Bariatric Navigator

Location: Fredericksburg Virginia

Description: Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center is in need of Bariatric Navigator right now, this position will be placed in Virginia. Detailed specification about this position opportunity please read the description below. SPECIFIC ELEMENTS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS*

The Bariatric Navigator is responsible for programmatic development of Bariatric Services and the achievement of hospital specialty accreditations and certifications. Plans, develops and implements administrative aspects of the Bariatric Program and identifies opportunities to specialize in other service lines through centers of excellence. The navigator acts as the liaison between the hospital, patients and the physician's office. Monitors the interdisciplinary components of the program to ensure that they meet the! goals and objectives of the program, and are consistent with ! the overall strategic plan of the Hospital.

Essential Job Functions

1. Leads the program functions by collaborating with multi-disciplinary departments and providing expertise and guidance as needed

2. Leads the establishment of a systematic approach to the Bariatric Program and other accreditations including identifying and incorporating "best practices" into the design

3. Manages the accreditation process for and ensures continuous compliance with MBSAQIP requirements, Payers, and others

a. Maintains relevant policies and procedures, patient education, outcomes data collection, quality improvement efforts, and education of relevant staff with focus on patient safety

b. Supports the development of written protocols and education of nurses detailing the rapid communication and basic response to critical vital signs that is specifically required for prompt and timely diagnosis and management and treatment of serious adver! se events

c. Responds or coordinates all initial requests for accreditation; RFI's; application/site inspection/other, from MBSAQIP, Payers and others

d. Maintains and keeps current the Hospital Quality monitoring /

improvement process as it relates to the Bariatric Program

4. Facilitates Bariatric committee meetings, which is the primary forum for Continuous Quality Improvement

5. Collaborates with the quality department and outside agencies to implement patient risk stratification for Patient Selection Criteria to help improve clinical outcomes.

6. Supervises the Metabolic and Bariatric Clinical Reviewer (MBCR) regarding timely and accurate quality data collection, validation, and entry into the MBSAQIP Data Registry Platform. Ensures that a standard operating procedure (SOP) for data validation is in accordance with the hospital quality department policies.

7. Collaborates with the department leaders in the b! ariatric surgery continuum of care to monitor / ensure patient satisfac! tion throughout the pre-peri-and post-operative and discharge processes.

8. Coordinates with Supply Chain, Engineering and various Department / Clinical Unit Managers to ensure furniture, equipment and supplies are available and appropriate to meet the needs of the patients

9. Updates clinical program policies, procedures, standardized physician orders and pathways as needed

10. Stays current on insurance process for the patients including eligibility, pre-determination process, appeals and pre-certification process

11. Assists with Program marketing efforts to facilitate access to bariatric surgery care

12. Collaborate with surgeon's offices and marketing department for patient educational sessions, community events and patient symposiums

13. Facilitates pre-op patient educational sessions and guides program content. Reviews and revises pre-op patient educational materials for evidenced-based practice

14. Atten! ds ASMBS conference, Virginia Bariatric Society meetings and other professionally related national meetings to maintain required certification (CBN)

15. Collaborates with the facility regarding support groups, and community outreach programs to improve obesity rates such as participating in the Walk from Obesity.

16. Identifies potential research projects that would improve clinical outcomes

17. Provides education to the patients and their families regarding the expectations of postoperative care Acts as a liaison between patient, physicians' offices and nursing units for delivery of care.

18. Follows up with patients postoperatively to ensure that patients understand care path post discharge.

19. Provide education as needed to nursing staff regarding postoperative care of the patients

3. Works effectively with surgeons, sales, Sr. and Executive leadership to grow service lines.

4. Demonstrates the ability to provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers.

5. Serves as a clinical resource to nurses and other ancillary service providers

6. Participated in clinical protocol development

7. Promotes quality by participating in care-enhancing initiatives to continually improve processes and systems for patient care delivery

8. Attends pertinent and assigned committee meetings

9. Assess educational needs of hospital staff and community

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE

Required

Must have CPR certification

Demonstrated experience with program development/management including data collection and quality monitoring activities

Preferred

ASMBS RN Certification (CBN).

Pre! vious surgical experience

EDUCATION

Required

Must have current RN licensure in the State of Virginia or awaiting reciprocity

Preferred

Masters degree in Nursing or Equivalent
