No State Benefits. This is an excellent opportunity to join a progressive team of professionals in an 87-bed Joint Commission accredited Skilled, Intermediate, and General-Medical hospital.

The WAGE Administrative & Office Specialist III (Medical Coder): analyzes and technically evaluates health records and reports; assess the quality and quantity of clinical documentation in order to accurately identify and capture all code able and billable diagnoses and services rendered during an inpatient or outpatient encounter; reviews and screens the entire medical record to create an abstract summarizing clinical data as diseases, therapies, surgeries, lab tests and pharmaceuticals and assigning ICD-9 codes and CPT-4 codes; receives forms from all consultant physicians who do not bill 3rd party; reviews CPT/ICD Codes and make certain all codes are as indicate! d on the Avatar approved list, corrects as necessary and enter! s into the Avatar System; receives forms from active physician staff, review codes, and enters into Avatar accordingly; runs reports, makes any corrections necessary; provide to the Reimbursement Office for billing as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Must have: strong knowledge of medical terminology along with a working knowledge of anatomy and physiology, disease processes and pharmacology; the ability to read and interpret hand written medical record documentation to identify all diagnoses, conditions, treatment reassessment, services, and procedures performed and transform the written description into ICD-9 and CPT numerical codes; the ability to assess the quality and quantity of clinical documentation in order to accurately identify and capture all code able and billable diagnoses, services and supplies during an inpatient or outpatient rendered service; the ability to enter assigned codes accurately and submit for reimbursement of services; and! the ability to maintain excellent working relationships and partner with physicians and ancillary staff. Certification through the American Health Information Management Association or American Association of Professional Coders as a CCS, CCS-P, CPC, CPC-H or specialty coding is also required.
