**Seeking an experienced RN to work in the Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) at Inova Fairfax Hospital/ Inova Heart and Vascular Institute**
D/N Rotation - 12 hour shifts

The CVICU is a 2009 and 2010 Beacon Award Recipient for Critical Care Excellence from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses.

The Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) is a 24-bed unit in the Inova Heart and Vascular Institute located on the Inova Fairfax Hospital campus in Falls Church, Virginia.

Patients admitted to the CVICU include, but are not limited to, post cardiac surgery, post vascular surgery, heart failure requiring invasive cardiac monitoring, and other medical or surgical diagnosis requiring intense and continuous monitoring.
The CVICU is also a very specialized unit that cares for the most critically-ill patients within Inova. These complex, critically-ill patients require the best care the nursing profession has to offer. A sampl! e of these patients includes:
Coronary Artery Bypass Graft! ing
Heart Transplant
Lung Transplant
Heart and Lung Transplant
Heart Failure
Ventricular Assist Device Implantation and Management
Cardiogenic Shock
Intra Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP)
Minimally Invasive valve replacement
MAZE procedure-Surgical intervention for Atrial Fibrillation
Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO)
Therapeutic Hypothermia post cardiac arrest
Thrombolytic Therapy related to Vascular Emergencies

The RN:

• Provides safe therapeutic care in a holistic and systematic way. Incorporates differences into the provision of care. Integrates knowledge, skills, and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families throughout the continuum to include patient and family education.
• Communicates effectively and works cooperatively with others. Has respect for and understanding of other clinical disciplines. Uses an integrated approac! h toward patient outcomes.
• Serves as an empowering body to influence patient empowerment as well as successful outcomes of financial and clinical quality through relationships and access based knowledge. Utilizing standards, guidelines, and pathways for care delivery. The process for delivery of care is synthesized from direct patient/family communication, technology, and other healthcare team member collaboration.
• Ensures improvements in practice settings by assuming responsibility for self-development in life-long learning. Provides direction and guidance to others regarding practice, serves as a resource, preceptor, and mentor. Leadership skills demonstrated in decision making and problem solving.

Job & Education Requirements:

• Requires a minimum of 1 year recent hospital experience and/or previous nursing practice experience.
• Previous cardiac or telemetry experience preferred.

BLS certification required. ACLS certification required.

Licensed or eligible for license in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse.

Graduate of an accredited school of ! nursing. BSN or MSN preferred.
