Medicine Service is seeking a ABIM board certified or eligible nephrologist for a full-time position at the McGuire Veterans Affairs Medical Center (RICVAMC) in! Richmond, VA. Duties include provision of nephrology care in both inpatient and outpatient settings. This position requires that the nephrologist accept rotating on-call schedule as well as nights and weekend emergency coverage. Expertise in general nephrology, hemodialysis (HD), peritoneal dialysis (PD), complicated hypertension, pre- and post-renal transplant management, nephrolithiasis and other general nephrology areas is essential. The nephrologist is required to see inpatient consults and provide medical oversight for inpatient dialysis. A strong interest in research is a must. The appointment will have an academic appointment at Virginia Commonwealth University.

  • The selected candidate will work various tours of duty to include rotating on-call as well as nights and weekend emergency coverage.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical requirements of this position include lifting, prolonged standing and sitting, frequent bending, walking! (distance), climbing, reaching (overhead, extensive/repetitiv! e), repetitive motion and stooping. The mental/sensory requirements include recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing legibly, keyboarding, reading and logical thinking. The environment's pace can vary from steady to a sometimes fast pace requiring handling of multiple priorities, frequent, sometimes intense customer interactions, and the ability to adapt to frequent changes in a sometimes noisy environment. There may be the need to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to disease, illness and hazardous materials.

  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.

  • Must be board certified or eligible.
