Research Coordinator

Purpose of Position: This position is to assist the divisional faculty members with ongoing research studies and to participate in all aspects of study formulation, study practice! , and study patient admission. Provide research related care for a defined group of research participates. Responsible for effective implementation of experimental treatments and use of research tools. Serves as Primary contact resource for selected research protocols and is responsible for the coordination of patient care and data collection methods. Serves as resource nurse to investigators, and other disciplines involved in the patients' care and research. Collaborates with the division of cardiology and other heart center staff in the management of patients in research studies. Identify potential studies, negotiate budgets, study submission, study set up, identify potential subjects, consent subjects, work with subjects and hospital personnel to ensure adherence to study protocol and GCP, through to close-out and study record maintenance of those trials that the division has completed.
Minimum Qualifications
- AAS or BS in Nursing, or other scie! ntific or healthcare related degree with significant research ! credentials preferred. -Demonstrated leadership with project management skills required. - Several years of Medical/Surgical experience required, critical care preferred. Experience in clinical trials preferred. -Experience in cardiothoracic surgery and research background preferred. -Educational training in research through nationally recognized organization preferred. -RN with several years of current Cardiothoracic Surgery Nursing experience or similar healthcare related field highly desired. -Experience in regulatory compliance, research nursing, and /or coordination of studies preferred. -Requires the analytical skill to resolve problems that require the use of basic scientific, mathematical, or technical principles. -Skills to effectively communicate with patients and their families and other medical personnel. -Computer & data management skills (word, e-mail, basic data base knowledge and internet) -Ability to prioritize & meet deadlines & maintain patient confidenti! ality -Demonstrate compliance with VCU policies, procedures and customer service.
