The Financial Counselor core duties consist of identifying and verifying existing payer sources, as well as ensuring that services have been pre-authorized and/or properly pre-certified within designated time frame for inpatient admissions and outpatient surgeries and special procedure; identifying alternative payer sources for the uninsured/underinsured, and facilitating application for those sources with the patient, arranging payment schedules with patients when necessary; identifying returning patients with accounts in bad debt; and identifying and determining eligibility for charity care programs for which self-pay patients may qualify.
In addition, the employee will uphold and demonstrate the Prince William Hospital values- Integrity, Commitment, Accountability, Responsiveness and Expertise - through the use of our Standards of Behavior in their day-to-day actions. The employee may also be responsi! ble for other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the depa! rtment.
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or GED required.
Experience: One to two years required.
Licensure/certification/registration: CHAA required within one year.
Additional skills required: Excellent communication skills, Microsoft office, completion of Medical Terminology and CHAA certification within one year of hire.
Additional skills preferred: Verbal and written Spanish, Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) certification.
