This position is located in the PACU at the Fredericksburg Ambulatory Surgery Center. The Registered Nurse (RN) assumes the accountability and responsibility as a professional nurse for providing total, comprehensive, continuous, and patient-centered care for an assigned group of patients. The RN is responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosing, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The RNâs duties include, but not limited to the following:
Directing and coordinating all nursing care for patients based on established clinical practice standards.
Collaborating with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes.
Supporting the organizationâs vision, mission and values.
Utilizing knowledge of patientâs age and cultural diversity into the provisi! on of patient care.
Participating in and accepting respons! ibility for functions delegated to the team.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Provides competent, compassionate patient- and family-centered nursing care based on scientific principles and the use of the nursing process and interdisciplinary teamwork.
Demonstrates the Caring Theory principles and provides and maintains a therapeutic environment for patients and families.
Articulates the professional nursing role to the patient, family and health team members.
Identifies, facilitates, and evaluates outcomes of nursing care for an individual patient or group of patients.
Demonstrates critical thinking in the provision and coordination of patient care.
Directs the coordination of care across settings and among caregivers, including oversight of licensed and unlicensed personnel in any assigned or delegated tasks.
Coordinates involvement of the patient, family and health team members in patient care, including patient/family te! aching and discharge planning.
Communicates and coordinates the plan of care and other pertinent information to/from other health care team members. Promotes continuity of care through effective hand-offs.
Helps define standards of excellence for patient care; participates in improvement of patient care services in a cost-effective way.
Provides care appropriate to age group of patients and specific functions on assigned unit(s) as described in the unitâs Scope of Service.
Participates in, contributes to and integrates the performance improvement into care delivery and participates in quality improvement activities. Such activities may include: exhibits compliance with regulatory and quality and safety requirements.
Collaborates with other professionals and directs nonprofessional nursing personnel in maintaining recognized standards.
Participates in orientation of new permanent and temporary staff members.
Appropriately utilizes nursing resour! ces.
Interprets hospital and departmental policies and procedures t! o nurses and other health team members.
Participates in daily operational activities necessary for safe patient/staff environment.
Provides input to the Nurse Manager regarding unit needs.
Participates in unit, departmental and hospital committees for formulation of nursing and hospital policies and procedures.
Leadership and Professional Development :
Maintains and updates clinical knowledge and skills based on current nursing education practices.
Uses the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements (ANA 2001) to guide practice.
Demonstrates a commitment to continuous, lifelong learning for self and others.
Teaches others to succeed by mentoring and other strategies, indicates readiness to precept, and serves as a unit preceptor for externs, nursing students, and new RNs.
Inspires loyalty through valuing of people as the most precious asset in an organization.
Serves in key roles in the work setting by particip! ating on committees, councils, and administrative teams. Promotes advancement of the profession through participation in professional organizations.
Demonstrates leadership by participating in clinical advancement pathways (CAP) and performing at CAP level expectations in the unit and hospital-wide.

Qualifications:
Registered Nurse licensed to practice in Virginia
Bachelors degree in nursing or healthcare related field preferred.
Minimum of one year current related clinical acute care experience.
Successful completion of pre-placement/employment evaluation
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Some exposure to communicable diseases or toxic substances, ionizing radiation, therapeutic preparations and other conditions common to a health care environment.
TYPICAL PHYS! ICAL DEMANDS: Requires full range of motion including handling and ! lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts, carries up to 35 pounds, and pushes items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours. Requires exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids.
