Seeking qualified candidates for the position of Laboratory Specialist Senior to provide administrative and technical support for the Nutrition Service as well as the Continuing Education program of the College o! f Veterinary Medicine. This position coordinates the activities of both programs in response to the needs described by the Hospital Director for the Continuing Education component, and the Nutrition faculty.
Minimum Qualifications
Successful candidate must have knowledge of general laboratory operation and equipment; knowledge of surgical terminology, instruments and supplies with emphasis on veterinary surgical needs; experience in veterinary technician skills; knowledge of veterinary handling and restraint techniques; familiarity with veterinary terminology as related to surgery, clinical case use and diagnostic procedures; knowledge of computers with emphasis on word processing, spread sheets, data base management; ability to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends; ability to work well with others in a team/unit organization; ability to work efficiently without supervision and to prioritize tasks and follow directions accurately and in! a timely fashion. Must be a graduate of a certified veterinar! y technician program, licensed/eligible in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Rabies prophylaxis required, provided by employer.
Preferred Qualifications
Degree in Biology, Animal Science or related area; advanced training or coursework in Nutrition; course work in general science-veterinary related animal fields, sterile techniques, and veterinary surgery helpful.
