The ideal candidate will review the medical records for documentation of the surgeries performed, coexisting chronic conditions that have been exacerbated or required treatment with medications or monitoring or are a risk factor for the patient treatment, to identify transient conditions that require treatment during hospital stay. Audit inpatient and outpatient medical records with at least 97% coding accuracy Diagnosis Related Groups (DRG) and Ambulatory Procedure Grouping (APG) Validation Medical records coding, auditing and training Preparations for CARA Audit Mediations and training support ICD-10 Supplemental Coding Auditing and Training during implementation 90 days follow up with MTFs with tracking, progression and coding accuracy of ICD-10 (method audio and video), ICD-9 Coding Auditing and Training, Documentation feedback to coders, Chart Analysis, Communications with MTF Coders on coding errors Feedback from random and focus audits Coding analysis and other identified compliance issues

Required Skills

Prepare detailing audit results.

Knowledge of Federal and state compliance regulations

Knowledge of medical terminology

Report preparation skills

Analytical ability to conduct interviews and gather information

Proof of certification/completion of course work is required.

Current coding credentials/certifications from AHIMA (CCS and RHIA and/or RHIT), and/or AAPC required.

Minimum degree required is an Associate.

For Non-DoD experience must have at least 3 years direct inpatient, outpatient and specialty coding experience.

With DoD experience may have 2 years consulting experience.

Working knowledge of Reimbursement and Compliance preferred.

Trending and analysis of coding errors

Provide quality assurance auditing processes

Provide consulting services in the area of data quality management to individuals, special projects, and executive and clinical departments throughout the organization.

Assists with requests to review and verify codes, charges on patient accounts and denials

Responsible for the implementation and education of system changes and new requirements; actively participates in ICD-10 implementation; monitors and runs Case Mix reports, provide Case mix analysis.

Provides feedback and education to physician and professional staff regarding changes in coding methodology and enhanced documentation procedures for optimizing reimbursement while maintaining the confidentiality of patient records and procedures.

Assist MTF coders with projected ICD 10 short term learning curves prior to ICD 10 implementation and provide ongoing sustainment

Coding, optimizing, auditing, consulting, coder education, analysis, data entry, and other tasks necessary to complete the coding processing

Review, validate and approve (or edit) codes\

Monitor un-coded charts

Abide by AHIMA Standards of Ethical Coding Optimization through quality coding-achieve and maintain quality coding data, regardless of the financial outcome

Knowledge of Inpatient â€" including CMS DRG and MS-DRG Knowledge of Outpatient â€" including ED, APC,APV and specialty clinics

Required Experience

Preferably 5+ years in the healthcare industry, with hands-on actual coding with auditing experience, inpatient and outpatient coding/auditing experience, or teaching coding classes in an approved AHIMA accredited college program, and a knowledge base including ICD-9-CM converting to ICD-10, (both CM and PCS).

Bachelors degree in healthcare or related field; supplemented with two (2) years of related work experience, with two (2) years of medical auditing preferred. Accredited Record Technician/Certified Procedure Coder certification preferred. Certified Coding Specialist/physician or hospital-based required

Conducts and coordinates routine audits Supervises professional auditing staff; coordinates auditing activities and projects, ensuring confidentiality
