CaseBook Consults: Improving Outcomes in Gout
Despite the fact that gout can be diagnosed with relative certainty and that effective therapies have been available for a long time, gout is underdiagnosed and undertreated, management is less than optimal, and poor clinical outcomes are not uncommon. It is the aim of this CE activity to provide information that will assist primary care providers to improve management and clinical outcomes for their patients with gout. Specifically, the program will convey the key factors needed to confidently make a presumptive diagnosis of gout, explore the rationale, timing and duration of pharmacologic treatment of gout and hyperuricemia, discuss the importance of achieving a target SUA level of ⤠6.0 mg/dL with urate lowering therapy (ULT), and provide examples of how to educate and communicate with patients to improve adherence to urate-lowering therapy and overall outcomes. Approved for one hour of AAPA ! Category 1 CME credit.

Smiles for Life - A Nat! ional Oral Health Curriculum
Smiles for Life: A National Oral Health Curriculum was originally developed in 2005 by the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine Group on Oral Health. The initial goal of the project was to provide educational resources to enhance the role of physicians training in Family Medicine residency programs in the promotion of oral health. A revised and expanded 2nd edition of Smiles for Life was released in 2008. It included additional modules on fluoride varnish and oral health in pregnancy. Its focus was significantly expanded to include all primary care clinicians including physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners. The current 3rd edition of Smiles for Life was released in June of 2010 with a course on Geriatric oral health added in September 2011. It continues its broad focus on all primary care clinicians, while adding opportunities for individual learners through interactive on-line learning. Approved for up to 8! .5 hours of AAPA Category 1 CME credit.
