The VA Medical Center of Salem, Virginia is located adjacent to Roanoke, both of which are nestled in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains of southwest Virginia. The Salem & Roanoke metropolitan area provide its' residents with a reasonable cost of living, affordable housing, low crime, low taxes, and some of the finest public and private schools in Virginia. The Salem VA Medical Center is seeking a full time Dermatologist to join its staff of experienced physicians in the Department of Medicine at the Medical Center. The Salem VA Medical Center maintains active academic affiliations with the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM), the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM), and the University of Virginia School of Medicine (UVA), all of which allow numerous teaching and mentoring opportunities for physicians within their scopes of practice. In addition to these opportunities through our academic affiliations, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive care for patients within the scope of general Dermatologic practice. The successful candidate's practice will be focused primarily within the Dermatology Clinic of the Salem VAMC, with the occassional requirement for inpatient consultion throughout the Medical Center.

Must complete a 2 year probationary period

DUTIES:
Provides comprehensive Dermatology care to inpatients and outpatients of the Salem VAMC.

Provides appropriate education for the patient and family members regarding the patient's illness and/or management of care.

Works collaboratively with the primary care providers, as well as the general and plastic surgeons of the Medical Center.

In conjuction with the Salem Center of Excellence Transformation Initiative Learning Center (TILC), staff Dermatologists participate in electronic consultation (e-consults) in order to improve access to and the quality of dermatology care through the tele-dermatology program and related technologies.

Participates in the academic mission of the Salem VAMC by specialty-related teaching of clinical staff, medical students and other health profession trainees as a part of clinics, consults and conferences.

Staff Dermatologists will provide resident and/or trainee supervision as necessary and appropriate.

Participates in research investigations, which includes self-initated studies, mentoring of trainees, and collaborating with other specialty areas within the medical center.

Participates in or leads process improvement efforts related to the Dermatology Clinic, the Department of Medicine, and the Medical Center.

**SALARY DETERMINED BY PHYSICIAN COMPENSATION PANEL COMMENSURATE WITH EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS .

**May be eligible for recruitment/relocation bonus.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Applicant must be a U.S. citizen.

Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia.

Degree of Doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting in a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.

Must be board certified or board eligible in Dermatology

Must acquire and maintain American Heart Association Basic Cardiac Life Support.
