This is a full time position with a shared call of 1 in 8. They are recruiting because of a retirement, excessive growth in the area, long wait times for patients, existing providers are too busy, etc.
Hospital is looking to add 2 Internal Medicine Physicians to the market by September of 2009. The opportunity is a hospital employed group practice. This group has a well established patient base. The current Internal Medicine Physicians would like a well qualified caring physician to take over an additional patient base created by one physician leaving the market and another leaving private practice to join the hospitalist group. One physician in the group currently see approximately 30 patients per day ( 20 -25 outpatient 5-8 inpatient) and earns income in the 95% of MGMA. Another one currently sees approximately 25 patients per day ( 20 outpatient 3-5 inpatient) and earns income in the 75% of MGMA. Each physician has new appointments booked out until October of 2009.
In September of 2008, the hospital surveyed if the primary care physicians were accepting patients and if they were, how long would it take to see the physician. The results were that 75% of the primary care physicians were either not accepting patients or it would take longer than 2 months for an appointment and 92% of the Internists had closed their practices.
The Hospital determines their physician needs from a 3rd party company, Health InfoTechnics (www.healthinfotechnics.com). Our latest report from HIT is from 2006. The total service area has a need for 21 Internal Medicine and a total of 45 primary care physicians. Currently the market has 11 Internal Medicine Physicians and a total of 23 primary care physicians. The Hospital has a growth plan to add 3 Internal Medicine Physicians by the end of 2009.
