Posting Summary:
The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Division of Orthopaedic Research at the University of Virginia, seeks candidates for an Assistant Professor of Research position. This tenure-ineligible position will collaborate closely with principal investigators within the University and other national and international institutions to establish an innovative preventive and treatment strategy for osteonecrosis and degenerative spinal disc disease, using stem cells and nano-technology. The successful candidate will closely train and work with laboratory personnel in writing research protocols to obtain sustainable extramural funds and, using techniques including but not limited to, cell culture, cell storage, preparation of DNA/RNA from cells and tissues, designing primers, running PCR, Western and Northern blots, ELISA, gene cloning, making virus vectors, cell transduction, preparing nano-fullerenes, scaffold and allograft bone, animal surgery, tissue collection and preparation for histology and immunohistomorphometry. He/She will also routinely lead lab meetings and journal clubs on a weekly basis.

Potential candidates must have a PhD in biomaterial/bioengineering, and have at least 3 years' experience working in the field of orthopaedics and associated research. Candidates should also have extensive experience in nanotechnology, especially fullerenes, and be able to manipulate nano-particles.
