Description: Carilion Clinic is hiring SURGICAL TECHNICIAN I - OPERATING ROOM right now, this vacancy will be placed in Virginia. Detailed specification about this vacancy opportunity please read the description below. Basic Functions: Supports Carilions hallmarks of service excellence and quality for all job responsibilities. Participates in the delivery of individualized peri-operative registered nursing care under the supervision and guidance of a licensed physician or a registered professional nurse. Collaborates with other members of the healthcare team to assure quality patient care. JOB SCOPE: Communicates with surgeons, gastroenterologists, anesthesiologists, other necessary personnel, and patients to facilitate continuity of care.
Required to work all shifts and be on call. Works in the presence of dangerous gases, chemicals, lasers, x-ray, and highly technical electrical equipment, and has continuous exposure to body fluids infectious diseases. Physical effort is continuously required to move and lift heavy equipment, supplies, and anesthetized patients. Works under unusual stress and fatigue.
Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development through the life span, interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients requirements relative to his or her age and specific needs, and provide the care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures. Minimum Qualifications Required: Education: High School graduate required. Graduate of approved Surgical Technology Program, Licensed Practical Nursing or equivalent college level education preferred (i.
e. Nursing education, LPN student, RN Student). Will consider 1 year Surgical Technician work experience for education. Experience: One year experience as a Surgical Technologist or Licensed Practical Nurse preferred.
Ortho total joint experience required. Licensure, certification, and/or registration: None Surgical Technologist I: BLS certification from the American Heart Association is required Other Minimum Qualifications: Satisfactory completion of structured orientation program.
